Norman, OK — Second Chance Animal Rescue is thrilled to announce that construction is officially underway on its brand-new shelter facility. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the organization’s 35-plus-year history of serving at-risk animals in central Oklahoma.
The new facility will include expanded space for animals in need, a modernized veterinary suite, streamlined design to prevent spread of disease, and improved resources for volunteers and community programs. With this project, Second Chance aims to better meet the growing demand for animal care and outreach in the region.
Founded in the early 1980s, Second Chance Animal Rescue has been a vital part of the Norman community for over three decades. The organization began as a foster-based rescue and later established its current shelter through a grassroots capital campaign. Today, Second Chance continues its mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals from overcrowded shelters and at-risk situations, while engaging the community through adoption, education, and outreach programs.
The new facility will stand as a testament to the community’s commitment to animal welfare and a shared belief that every pet deserves a second chance.
