Oklahoma City (Dec. 1, 2025) – As the holidays approach and Oklahoma 529 rounds out its 25th anniversary celebration, State Treasurer Todd Russ wants to help Oklahomans use their holiday shopping to grow their education savings through a scholarship giveaway offered through a partnership with Upromise.
“Oklahoma 529 continues to find new ways to help families grow their education savings,” Russ said. “Through programs like the Upromise scholarship giveaway, families can see their contributions go even further and turn everday purchases into meaningful progress toward their goals.”
To help Oklahoma 529 investments go even further, Oklahoma 529 is once again partnering with Upromise for a scholarship giveaway for both existing and new account owners. Upromise is a free rewards program that offers cash-back rewards for everyday purchases people are already making. Rewards are transferred as a contribution to an Oklahoma 529 account. From now until Dec. 19, one Oklahoma 529 winner will have the chance to win a $1,000 scholarship when they link their Oklahoma 529 account to a Upromise account. Two additional winners will receive a $529 contribution. Every $1 in cash-back rewards earned through Upromise in November increases a participant’s chance to win.1
“The holidays are when many families do the most shopping,” Russ said. “With Oklahoma 529’s Upromise partnership, those same purchases – holiday gifts, family dinners or the drive to see loved ones – can automatically help grow education savings.”
Russ added that since Oklahoma 529 began its partnership with Upromise there have been over 1,100 accounts linked and over $40,000 in additional account contributions made through the platform.
This year, in celebration, of its 25th anniversary, Oklahoma 529 conducted two sweepstakes promotions to thank families for being a part of its legacy. The promotions included a 25th Anniversary Sweepstakes held April through June and a Upromise Scholarship promotion held in August. Through these sweepstakes, a total of six winners were selected, and Oklahoma 529 gave away a total of $3,645 in account contributions.
Oklahoma 529 currently manages over $1.57 billion in assets and over 74,000 accounts. Funds can help pay for tuition and fees at colleges and universities, Oklahoma CareerTech Centers and graduate and professional schools as well as for K-12 tuition up to $10,000 annually per student. This amount increases to $20,000 in January 2026. Funds also can be used toward expenses associated with certified apprenticeship programs, concurrent enrollment and student loan repayment subject to a lifetime limit of $10,000 per individual.2
