PRESS RELEASE: OKCPS hosts Saturday enrollment and developmental screening events

Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) sends this information as posted below:

(Oklahoma City, OK) Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is hosting a special enrollment event from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m, Saturday, July 26, to support families as they prepare for the upcoming school year at Westwood Student Services Center, located at 1701 Exchange Ave, Oklahoma City, OK. Beginning Monday, July 28, families will be able to enroll at their student’s school site.

Families can enroll students for any OKCPS school at this event and can receive in-person assistance throughout the process. All new to the district and returning families must complete their students’ enrollment ahead of the new school year.

Families planning to enroll should bring the following:

  • Proof of address (e.g., utility bill, lease agreement)
  • Age verification document for new students (e.g., birth certificate, passport)
  • Special education records, if applicable
  • Immunization records

Additionally, Westwood Student Services will be providing free developmental screenings from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26 for children ages 3 and 4 who reside within OKCPS district boundaries. These screenings are designed to help identify a child’s strengths and determine whether additional support might benefit their growth and learning. This is an excellent opportunity for families to ensure their children are on track for a successful educational journey.

These walk-in screenings eliminate the need for appointments, providing families with flexibility and accessibility. Each evaluation is designed to last approximately one hour and will cover crucial developmental areas, including:

  • communication
  • gross motor skills
  • fine motor skills
  • problem-solving skills
  • personal-social skills
  • age-appropriate milestones.

Families will receive detailed information about their child’s screening results and, if concerns are identified, guidance on available support services.

Early enrollment helps OKCPS plan more effectively for the upcoming school year and allows the district to staff appropriately, organize class sizes and prepare resources to support student success. Families who are unable to attend can enroll online at www.okcps.org/backtoschool.
