(Oklahoma City, OK) Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is proud to celebrate Dr. Jamie Polk’s first official year as Superintendent, a year marked by meaningful progress in academic achievement, expanded student opportunities and deeper connections between students and staff.
In just one year under Dr. Polk’s leadership, OKCPS students and staff have demonstrated measurable progress, setting a promising foundation for the district’s future. Among the most notable achievements:
- Four OKCPS students scored a perfect 36 on the ACT in School Year (SY) 2024-2025, a remarkable improvement from SY23-24, when no perfect scores were reported.
- The percentage of 9th-grade students passing both Algebra I and English I increased by approximately eight percentage points, a key indicator of early high school success.
- Postsecondary readiness is on the rise, with a seven percentage point increase in the number of 11th and 12th graders completing advanced coursework or career pathways, including AP/IB classes, Career Tech programs, concurrent enrollment and internships.
- More seniors reported feeling supported by school staff in planning for college and careers, and a growing number said they know an adult at school who is ready to support them in a variety of ways.
- Participation in student activities also saw a strong boost, especially in school sports, GEAR UP, JROTC, internships, concurrent enrollment, and Career and Technical Education (CTE).
Dr. Polk, who stepped into the role with more than two decades of experience in Oklahoma public education, emphasized the collaborative nature of the district’s progress.
“Our students are showing us what’s possible when we set high standards, provide strong support systems and listen to their needs,” said Dr. Polk. “We still have work to do, but I couldn’t be more proud of how far we’ve come together in one year. I look forward to continuing this journey with our OKCPS family.”
