OKLAHOMA CITY (September 30, 2025)—The Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) announces a dynamic lineup of fall programming throughout October and November, offering opportunities for creative engagement, special events, and unique experiences for visitors of all ages. Highlights include the annual Murder Mystery Night, interactive Drop-In Art activities during Fall Break, hands-on art classes inspired by Dale Chihuly and other artists, the OKCMOA Moderns’ third annual Hallow-Happy Hour, and the highly anticipated opening of Paul Reed: A Retrospective on November 22.
Visitors can explore the Museum’s galleries and participate in seasonal workshops, from mosaic and acrylic pour classes to portrait and clay sculpting. Programming also features lectures, member-exclusive events, and opportunities to experience the Museum after hours in immersive and interactive formats. Many events are free with Museum admission or available to members at no cost, and all activities are designed to engage participants in artmaking, learning, and creative exploration.

Art Class: Chihuly-Inspired Clay Bowls
October 11 | 10:30 a.m.
Ages 8-12
In this hands-on class, kids will explore the art of Dale Chihuly and his vibrant glass works, Macchia. Using clay and colorful glazes, students will sculpt and decorate their own unique bowls while learning about form, texture, and the expressive power of color.

Ages 18+
Participants will explore Dale Chihuly: The Oklahoma Collection across two sessions, first studying the artist’s distinctive shapes and forms before creating clay bowls using slump and slab techniques, and later returning to examine his expressive use of color while refining their vessels with sanding, patterns, and vibrant glaze.

Thanks to the generous support provided by the Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program, visitors of all ages will receive free admission to Museum galleries on the second Sunday of each month for the next three years.
Art Class: Art Nouveau-Inspired Portraits
October 12 | 1 p.m.
Ages 18+
Inspired by the Museum’s portrait gallery, this class explores stylized portraiture infused with Art Nouveau influences. Participants will create ink and metallic drawings using clean lines, geometric patterns, and rich embellishments, drawing inspiration from artists such as Tamara de Lempicka and Erté. Blending historical reference with contemporary creativity, the class emphasizes design, symmetry, and decorative detail.
Murder Mystery Night: The Mysterious Death of Miss Zoey Zielman

Ages 18+
Visitors are welcome to put on their detective hats for this special Museum visit. Guests will receive a Case File and take on the role of detective, following a series of clues throughout the Museum to unravel the story of Zoey Zielman, a spirit discovered on the rooftop under mysterious circumstances. This program invites attendees to engage with the Museum uniquely and interactively, combining storytelling, atmosphere, and investigation.

Ages 21+
The OKCMOA Moderns will host their third annual Halloween celebration on the Roof Terrace with Hallow-Happy Hour. This event invites guests to enjoy festive light bites, a specialty cocktail, and tarot readings in a spirited atmosphere. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes and take part in an evening of seasonal fun overlooking the Oklahoma City skyline.
October 16-18 | 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
During Fall Break, OKCMOA will offer special Drop-In Art activities inspired by works on view in the galleries. Visitors can create Chihuly-inspired Macchia bowls, sculpt expressive Rodin-inspired wire figures, and experiment with pastel and watercolor resist techniques drawn from Postwar Abstraction. Drop-In Art provides a come-and-go opportunity for all ages to engage creatively with the Museum’s exhibitions. Activities are free with admission and always free for Museum members.
October 22 | 5 p.m.
Dr. Erich Keel, PhD, former Head of Education at The Kreeger Museum, will present a lecture exploring the history of the Washington Gallery of Modern Art and the journey of its collection to OKCMOA. A respected art historian and scholar of modern and contemporary art, Keel will draw from his essay featured in the Paul Reed: A Retrospective exhibition catalog to provide context for the upcoming exhibition, which is the most comprehensive exhibition ever dedicated to this pivotal Washington Color School painter.
Art Class: Abstract Acrylic Paint Pour Creations
November 8 | 10 a.m.
Ages 18+
This acrylic pour workshop introduces participants to the dynamic art of fluid painting. Attendees will learn a range of techniques and explore color combinations to create abstract works on canvas. Following an introduction to materials and methods, the workshop will cover popular approaches such as dirty pour, flip cup, and swipe techniques. Each participant will complete a unique acrylic pour artwork to take home.
Art Class: Autumn Mosaic Creations
November 8 | 2 p.m.
Ages 18+
OKCMOA will offer a fall mosaic class introducing participants to the art of stained glass. Guided by an instructor, attendees will design and create their own fall-inspired mosaics using colorful glass pieces while learning fundamental techniques, including cutting, arranging, and grouting. Open to both beginners and experienced artists, the class offers a chance to develop new skills and create a unique piece of art.
Art Class: Chihuly-Inspired Persian Sculptures
November 9 | 1 p.m.
Ages 18+
Participants will design vibrant pieces inspired by Dale Chihuly’s iconic glasswork using materials like translucent acetate, glass paints, and acrylic paint markers. These pieces will then be shaped and formed using heat guns, then assembled and mounted to a black acrylic base.
Drop-In Art: Mixed-Media Surrealist Dreamscapes
November 15 | 11 a.m.
Inspired by the exhibition American Surrealism on view in the second-floor galleries, this Drop-In Art activity invites visitors to bring their imagination to life. Using a variety of materials, participants will combine everyday imagery, textures, abstract shapes, and other artistic elements to create a one-of-a-kind Surrealist dreamscape.
Members’ Preview Celebration of Paul Reed: A Retrospective
November 21 | 5 p.m.
OKCMOA members are invited to preview Paul Reed: A Retrospective before it opens to the public. Attendees will enjoy a reception in the Museum Lobby with a cash bar and light bites, then a lecture in the Noble Theater featuring David Gariff, PhD, curator of the exhibition.

Paul Reed: A Retrospective is guest curated by David Gariff, PhD, senior lecturer at the National Gallery of Art, and will consist of over one hundred paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. The checklist is drawn primarily from OKCMOA’s permanent collection with additional loans from important museum and private collections. The exhibition will include a catalog, published by Marquand Books, featuring essays by the exhibition’s curator and other art historians exploring the life, art, and legacy of Paul Reed, as well as the 1960s cultural history of Washington, DC, and new perspectives on some of the lesser-known aspects of the Washington Color School and its members.
