PRESS RELEASE: OKC Utilities to begin replacement of water storage tank near NW 50th

The City of OKC sends this information as posted below:

The Oklahoma City Utilities Department will begin demolition and replacement of one of its two water storage tanks at the City’s booster station located at NW 52nd Street and Colfax Place the week of Dec. 1. Part of a longer three-phase project, the work in December will include demolition of the south water tank, which has reached the end of its service life and is currently not in use. The demolition is expected to take about three weeks and should be completed before the Christmas holiday.

Neighbors who live in the area surrounding the booster station may experience an increase in noise, dirt and vibrations as demolition work is taking place. They may also notice heavy construction equipment in easements and public rights-of-way. All demolition and construction will take place on Utilities property and is expected to cause minimal impact to streets or traffic.

The booster station, which pulls water from the Hefner Water Treatment Plant, is part of the City’s treated water distribution system and serves customers along the Northwest Expressway corridor.

Oklahoma City water customers served by the tanks should not expect changes in their water quality or pressure while work is taking place. If customers do experience a sudden change in service, they are encouraged to call Utilities Customer Service at (405) 297-2833.

The second phase of the project will take place over the course of 2026 and includes building a new water storage tank on the same property and near the demolition site. Phase three, which includes demolition and replacement of the second tank, is planned for 2027. The tanks are being replaced at separate intervals to ensure ample supply so the booster station can maintain optimal pressures.

The City of Oklahoma City provides water service to more than 1.5 million people in Central Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City and 17 surrounding communities and wholesale customers.
