OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Homeschool families are cleared for takeoff at Science Museum Oklahoma’s upcoming HomeSchool Day, happening Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Themed around aviation and the science behind flight, the day promises hands-on discovery, interactive activities, and a full day of museum access designed especially for homeschool learners of all ages.
From gliders and paper airplanes to aviation maps and historical aircraft, guests will explore the principles of flight in action while making meaningful connections through science. The event begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m. and includes access to the museum’s permanent exhibits, Love’s Planetarium shows, Science Live demonstrations, plus aviation-focused activities throughout the day.
Activities include:
- Paper Airplane Station: Build, test, and tweak your own flyer, then take on the hoop challenge for a prize.
- Walk-Behind Gliders: Keep your glider soaring with a homemade updraft—no batteries needed.
- Flight Vectors & Navigation: Try your hand at plotting courses using aviation maps and discover how wind and speed change a pilot’s path.
- Guided Exhibit Tours: Join a walking tour through the museum’s aircraft collection and hear the stories behind the wings.
- Collections Tour: Explore rarely seen aviation artifacts from the museum’s private collection.
“Our homeschool families are some of our most engaged and curious visitors,” said Sherry Marshall, John E. Kirkpatrick CEO at Science Museum Oklahoma. “They come ready to learn and explore, so we created HomeSchool Days to say thank you and give them something extra. These events are about community, connection, and making learning unforgettable.”
No registration is required. All additional HomeSchool Day activities are included with general admission. Whether you’re new to homeschooling or a seasoned educator, this is your chance to learn, play, and discover as a family.
