Carpenter Square Theatre rings in the holiday season with “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live-Onstage-Radio Play” by Anthony E. Palermo November 28-December 14, 2025.  The third offering in the theater’s Season 42, all performances are at the theater’s venue located at 1009 W. Reno in the area known as the West Village in Oklahoma City.

Frank Capra’s beloved 1946 film gets a makeover as a 1940s radio broadcast performed live onstage, replete with vintage costumes, commercials and more. Patrons will become part of the broadcast’s studio audience following the “On Air” and “Applause” cues. A baker’s dozen of artists creates the town of Bedford Falls, including George and Mary Bailey, Clarence the Angel Second Class, the forgetful Uncle Billie, the despicable Mr. Potter, and sweet Zuzu Bailey. They are accompanied by live sound effects, a nostalgic organ and piano score, and all the laughter and heart of the original film. This production celebrates the spirit of community, sacrifice, and redemption that makes “It’s a Wonderful Life” a holiday favorite.

Rhonda Clark directs a cast of metro area actors. C.W. Bardsher and Shelly Harmon star as George and Mary Bailey, with Don Reece as Clarence the Angel 2nd Class and Albert Bostick as his heavenly boss. Barry Thurman creates the bumbling Uncle Billy, the broadcast’s announcer, and more, while Neal Risenhoover portrays the greedy Mr. Potter. The Bailey and Hatch family members and the many residents of Bedford Falls are played by K. DerRon Vinson, Robert Benton, Chelsea McIntire, Kristy Salisbury, Randall Wing, and Shawn Witcher. The live sound effects are produced by Lola Doolittle. Jason Brackenridge assists as the production stage manager. Set design is by Ben Hall, Brayden Pogson is the lighting designer, and Elin Bhaird serves as costume designer.

Specific performance dates and times over three weekends are: 8 p.m. November 28-29, December 5-6, and 12-13; 7:30 p.m. December 4 and 11; and 2 p.m. December 7 and 14.

Tickets are on sale now. All seats are reserved, and reservations are highly recommended. For a savings, theatergoers may purchase flexible passes that can be used for multiple productions. Regular adult tickets are $30 with discounts available for seniors, military, educators, students, and groups of ten or more.
