Ward 6 Councilwoman JoBeth Hamon invites renters to a free training session on tenants’ rights from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 5.
The event will be held in the Friends Room on the fourth floor of the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library, 300 Park Ave.
Adam Hines with the ACLU of Oklahoma and Greg Beben with Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma will lead the training. The presenters will answer some of the most asked housing issues tenants face, including:
- When and how can my landlord evict me?
- Does my landlord have to allow my service animal?
- When can my landlord raise the rent?
- What are the legal duties of a landlord?
“As a renter, I know firsthand the unique challenges tenants face in Oklahoma, and how important it is to be aware of our rights if conflicts with our landlords arise” Ward 6 Councilwoman JoBeth Hamon said. “I hope this event can be an opportunity for renters to be better informed of their rights and can walk away with tools to better advocate for themselves and their neighbors.”
Organizations including the OCU Law Tenants Rights Clinic, Dream Action Oklahoma and Freedom Oklahoma, will also be in attendance and available to provide resources on their services to attendees.
