OKLAHOMA CITY – The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, alongside the Latino Community Development Agency (LCDA), welcomed the community to celebrate the official grand opening of the Pete White YMCA earlier today. The event marked a new era for the MAPS 3 Wellness Center, now operated by the YMCA, and celebrated the collaborative effort to create a welcoming space where neighbors can connect, grow, and thrive.
Over 50 members of the local community attended the ribbon-cutting and celebration, which featured remarks from Kelly Kay, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City; Salvador Ontiveros, President & CEO of the Latino Community Development Agency; and Jessica Martinez Brooks, Senior Director of Strategic Communication & Engagement at Metro Technology Centers. Opening remarks were made by the Pete White Y’s associate executive director, Mary Emerson-Gomez, who welcomed attendees in both English and Spanish. Guests also enjoyed festive performances from Mariachi Orgullo de America.
“When we think about what a Y can be, we think about more than a building,” said YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City President & CEO Kelly Kay. “We think about a space where people reclaim their health, rediscover their confidence and build connections with one another. The Pete White YMCA is a place where active older adults can feel fully at home, fully supported and fully empowered.”
“This partnership between LCDA and the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City is special because of what we intend to do together: remove barriers and open doors,” said Salvador Ontiveros, President and CEO of LCDA.
The reopening launches a new chapter of community-focused programming in partnership with the LCDA, Variety Care, City of Oklahoma City, and Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation. Together, these organizations will expand access to health, education and recreational opportunities for all ages.
Thanks to the support of the EMBARK team, local seniors will now have dedicated transportation options to help them stay active and engaged. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, EMBARK will provide rides for seniors from their homes to the Pete White YMCA, where they can enjoy water aerobics, time in the gym and a shared meal. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, EMBARK will transport seniors to LCDA for food, fellowship and a lively game of Lotería. In addition, EMBARK will also assist with transportation to medical appointments and grocery trips, helping to ensure seniors in the community have reliable access to wellness, nutrition and social connections.
In celebration of the reopening, the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City is offering free day passes to Pete White YMCA and waived joining fees at all 16 YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City locations.
