City Care sends this information as posted below:
City Care is receiving a Blue ImpactSM grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma. This grant will strengthen City Care’s ability to care for neighbors experiencing homelessness who are medically fragile. While Oklahoma City does not yet have a dedicated medical respite program, many unhoused individuals need a safe place to recover from illness, injury, or ongoing health conditions. This support sustains shelter operations, staffing, and critical supplies—allowing City Care’s team to provide wound care, monitor health concerns, and create a stable environment for people who might otherwise be forced to recover on the streets.
Blue Impact grants directly target the social and economic factors that play a role in health and wellness. At Wednesday’s event, nearly $1 million will be given to 21 Oklahoma nonprofits in the following five areas of focus:
- Economic Opportunity and Stability: Addressing issues such as poverty, removing barriers to employment, providing good jobs and upskilling.
- Nutrition: Supporting efforts to decrease hunger and increase access to nutritional food.
- Neighborhood and Local Assets: Focusing on affordable healthy housing, access to transportation, and access to physical activity.
- Locally Defined Health Solutions: Addressing local health and human service needs.
- Optimal Health Outcomes: Helping close gaps in care, specifically around six priority areas: immunizations, diabetes care, cardiovascular care, behavioral health, early detection cancer screening and maternal & infant health.
About City Care
City Care exists to do the work few others are willing to do. We believe in the intrinsic value of every person. It is with love and compassion we advocate for the overlooked in our community. We provide food for the hungry, relief for the hurting, and hold space for the complete restoration of lives that have gotten off course. With enough endurance, we witness firsthand remarkable stories of transformation. City Care inspires those willing to look social injustice and extreme poverty in the face, and empowers them to do whatever it takes to create change.
