Police investigating southside OKC shooting that left one dead

OKLAHOMA CITY — Police have announced the identity of a man found dead in the parking lot of an apartment complex on the far south side Saturday.

Officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) found Rocky Gonzalez, 39, lying in the parking area near 8800 S. Drexel Saturday evening around 9:30 p.m.

“Mr. Gonzalez appeared to have been shot to death,” said a news release.

MSgt. Gary Knight with OKCPD told Free Press that their officers went to the address responding to calls 911 was receiving from residents who said they heard shots being fired.

The reports were coming from the Drexel Flats Apartment complex just south of Oklahoma City Community College in southeast Oklahoma City.

Detectives are now working the case as homicide #2 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2022.
