OKLAHOMA CITY — Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a June shooting at Scissortail Park that injured a 14-year-old boy.
The shooting occurred around 10:35 p.m. on June 22, shortly after an Oklahoma City Thunder Finals game.
Detectives with the Oklahoma City Police Department believe some sort of altercation in the park led to gunfire. The teenage victim was taken to a hospital with injuries police believe were not life-threatening.
The suspect fled the scene.
On June 24, in the same area, police conducted a traffic stop near Oklahoma City Boulevard and Thunder Drive shortly before 11 p.m.
The driver, identified as Kaziya Penn, was reportedly carrying a handgun and was arrested on a complaint of unlawful possession of a firearm.
Police believed the weapon recovered during that stop was used in the June 22 shooting.
The gun was then entered into the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network, where test results linked it to shell casings from the park shooting, police said.
After what police described as a lengthy investigation, Penn was arrested and booked Monday morning on a complaint of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
Bond has been set at $150,000.
Police said Penn confessed to the shooting during their investigation.
This case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office, which will ultimately determine whether charges will be filed.
