Oklahoma County Jail detainee dies at hospital — cause unknown

OKLAHOMA CITY — A detainee of the Oklahoma County Detention Center (Jail) died in the dark morning hours Saturday after having been rushed to the hospital.

Renee Houston, 57, was being taken care of on the Jail’s medical floor before the episode that led to the death.

A detention officer called for medical assistance around 11:40 p.m. Friday night according to a statement by Mark Opgrande, PIO for the Jail.

Life-saving efforts were attempted and after emergency responders arrived, Houston was taken to a local hospital.

Houston died at the hospital around 12:50 a.m. Saturday.

Houston was booked into the Jail August 29.

The State Medical Examiner now has the body and will make the final determination of the cause of death. The Jail reports that they Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations has been notified.
