OKC Animal Welfare waives adoption fees until Aug 26

-- Shelter is far over capacity

OKLAHOMA CITY — With the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter far over capacity, they are encouraging dog and cat adoptions with events and by waiving adoption fees until August 26.

The Shelter is now hosting close to 500 dogs, filling the space to 163% of its potential. Plus, more than 240 cats fill the cat section of the building pushing it to 127% of its capacity.

“We took in more than 265 animals this week alone,” Animal Welfare Superintendent Jon Gary said. “We are hopeful the public shows up this month to help care for animals in our community. There are so many sweet dogs and cats here who are ready to meet their family.”

‘Pittie Party’ Saturday, Aug 19

The shelter will be holding a “Pittie Party” to encourage the adoption of Pit Bull Terriers.

If you are interested, come to The Animal Shelter from 12 – 5 Saturday and meet some adoptable Pits waiting for a forever home.

All adoptable dogs and cats at OKC Animal Welfare are up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, treated for worms and spayed or neutered.

The OKC Animal Shelter, 2811 SE 29th Street, is open for adoptions from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, except City holidays. For more information, visit okc.gov/animalwelfare.
