Brett Fieldcamp has been our go-to reporter for just about any topic, but especially in the arts and entertainment arena. And now, I have named him our Arts and Entertainment Editor.
Brett’s new role is intended to strengthen and focus our efforts in reporting arts and entertainment expressions in the Oklahoma City metro.
With that, I will become the Editor in Chief of Free Press, not doing away with my responsibility for the overall life of the publication, but sharpening my role within it.
It’s time for me to focus on setting the direction of the publication, developing strong financial support, and engaging in more collaborations within the larger news sphere. More about that in future posts.
For each of us Bretts, it will mean a sharper focus on developing our publication’s reach in reporting news about life in the OKC metro.
After founding Free Press in 2016, it quickly became apparent to me that if we were going to say we report the life of this city, that would involve the arts and entertainment. It’s one of the more heartfelt ways in which people gather to experience the many joys of our life together.
Before Brett came to us, he was already a significant part of that talent pool, being a recognized musician in his own right. He has played in several local bands since high school, had one of his own, and continues to engage in many solo projects as well.
That past and ongoing experience has allowed him to report on the many aspects of our local music scene in ways that others could not.
He has been a writer for the past 15 years making significant contributions to several publications. He also holds a certification as a Specialist of Spirits from The Society of Wine Educators.
So, when I had the opportunity to get him involved in our efforts, it was a no-brainer to bring him on.
He will continue to write his film and music columns which are both popular and widely read.
I’m looking forward to this new phase in our publication’s development and life. It’s going to be both challenging and fun.
Brett is the founder, and editor in chief of Oklahoma City Free Press. He continues to contribute reporting and photography to the efforts of the publication as well as leadership in developing support.
