OKLAHOMA CITY — Because many people will need public transit for their jobs, EMBARK transit system in OKC will make big adjustments to keep the system from coming to a stop during the mass of crowds expected downtown on Tuesday.
The biggest shift will be to temporarily set up a one-day transfer center at the Oklahoma Fairgrounds and close the permanent transfer center at 420 N.W. 4th Street on Tuesday. That will enable the system to continue to work for those who need to ride to the transfer center and then take another bus from there to get to work or other business.
Here is a rundown of transit system plans for Tuesday, June 24, to accommodate transportation needs for and around the Thunder Championship parade:
- Transit Center – The downtown Transit Center at 4th & Hudson will not be accessible. A temporary Transit Center will be located in Lot R at OK State Fair Park.
- OKC Bus – All regular fixed-route buses will depart every hour, including routes 015, 019, and 024; However, no night service routes will run after 7 p.m. Plan ahead for delays and find your bus route detour. EMBARK Norman will not be affected.
- RAPID NW – Departures will be every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The route will be impacted by street closures. Plan ahead for delays and find your bus route detour here.
- EMBARK Plus and Mobility Management – Paratransit service will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. service hours. However, please check your destination and call 235-PLUS to ensure your destination is accessible.
- OKC Streetcar – Streetcars will not operate until the parade ends. Service on the Downtown loop will begin when the Oklahoma City Police Department has cleared the route, and will run as scheduled until midnight.
