Everett Edwards, 58, was pronounced dead at a hospital at 4:48 p.m., according to a statement released by Mark Opgrande with the jail.

It is the eighth jail detainee death in 2025.

Detention officers and medical staff discovered him during routine checks around 3:50 p.m. in a housing pod.

Medical personnel on site, along with EMSA and Oklahoma City Fire Department responders, attempted life-saving measures before transporting him to the hospital, where he was declared deceased.

Edwards had been in custody since June 27.

Jail officials said the cause of death remains under investigation. As per standard procedure, all in-custody deaths are investigated as homicides until the State Medical Examiner’s Office determines otherwise.

Edwards’ family has been notified.
