OKLAHOMA CITY — A man is in jail on a murder complaint after a 1-year-old boy died from severe burns he received last month in a northwest Oklahoma City home, police said Tuesday.
The death is the 62nd homicide of 2025 for the City of Oklahoma City.
Patrol officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to a “trouble unknown” call about 9:36 a.m. Oct. 25 at 5732 NW 16th St. When they arrived, they found Dawawn McCoy, 1, with severe burns to his head and face.
The child was taken to the Baptist Burn Center, where he died about a week later from complications related to the burns.

Detectives believe Logan Banks, 21, was caring for the child at the time of the injury. He was initially arrested on a complaint of child neglect and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center. After the child’s death, that complaint was amended to murder.
Banks is the boyfriend of the child’s mother.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Tip-Line at (405) 297-1200.
