PRESS RELEASE: The Annual Friends of the Metropolitan Library System Book Sale returns Feb. 21-22

The Metropolitan Library System sends this information as posted below:

The highly anticipated Annual Friends of the Library Book Sale returns Feb. 21–22 at the Oklahoma Expo Hall at the OKC State Fairgrounds. This beloved event draws thousands of book lovers each year, offering more than 500,000 books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records and magazines at unbeatable prices. Paperbacks start at just $1, hardbacks at $2, and children’s books are $.50 for paperbacks and $1 for hardbacks.

For those seeking unique finds, the “Better Books” section features rare and collectible items priced individually. The sale’s impressive collection is made possible through public donations and retired library materials. Behind the scenes, nearly 1,000 dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to sort, organize and staff the event.

A long-standing Oklahoma City tradition, the book sale offers something for everyone—whether you’re a casual reader, a book collector or simply looking for an affordable way to stock your shelves.

Proceeds from the sale support critical library programs, including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to children under five and fosters early literacy across Oklahoma County.

Event Hours:

  • Public Sale:
    • Friday, Feb. 21, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
    • Sunday, Feb. 22, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
  • Sensory-Friendly Hours:
  • Feb. 21 and 22, 10 a.m.–noon
  • No loud announcements; attendance capped at 500 people per session. Priority is given to guests using mobility aids and those preferring a calm shopping experience.

Event Details:

  • Cart and Wagon Guidelines: To help reduce congestion and improve safety, we ask shoppers to use smaller wheeled items or tote bags when possible. For this year, carts or wagons no larger than 2 feet by 2 feet are preferred. Wagons used to transport people are permitted.
    • Beginning with the February 2027 sale, oversized or unattended carts, utility carts, shopping carts, garbage cans, and similar large wheeled items will not be allowed on the sale floor. Large carts and wagons not carrying children must be returned to vehicles or checked in the lobby as space allows. Small wheeled suitcases, collapsible crates on wheels, and tall portable shopping baskets are welcome. Very large wagons intended for multiple children, but used only for books, should not be brought onto the sale floor.
  • Friends Membership: Shopping the book sale a day early is just one benefit of becoming a Friend of the Metropolitan Library System. Memberships are available until Jan. 30, with more information available here.
  • Volunteer Opportunities: There are still opportunities to volunteer at the sale or help prepare for next year by sorting books.
  • Leftover Books: Volunteers, educators and nonprofits registered in advance are invited to select leftover materials from 5–6:30 p.m.
  • Don’t miss this opportunity to find great deals, support your library, and celebrate a shared love of books. For more information, visit supportmls.org/fol/booksale.
