For the fire facilities line item on the GO Bond vote

The following opinion, sent to us from James Nimmo, an Oklahoma City resident, is in favor of the fire facilities proposition #11 on the GO Bond vote on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Nimmo is a library aide at the Ronald J. Norick downtown library in Oklahoma City.

I’m urging my tens of friends to vote in favor of the OKC Fire Department portion of the bond issue proposition #11, for additional fire stations, staffing, and equipment. Look on the back of the two-sided ballot.

Station #17 is in my neighborhood and it was those firefighters who came out to our house in 2014 and tried to bring back my partner, Don. They got him breathing again, but still unconscious, his body didn’t cooperate.

I enrolled in this year’s Resident Fire Academy and I’ve been bowled over by the incredible persistence of the giving they demonstrate day in and day out, which in some cases, they give their own health and life.

The OKC fire department’s motto is, “We’re here when you need us.” We voters need to be there for them, as well.
